Pop for Counting Game by Learning Resources

Kids take their counting skills out for a spin with Pop for Counting, an early-math game from Learning Resources! Take turns spinning the spinner, drawing cards, and counting the number of objects depicted on the card aloud.

Fast-paced and simple, Pop for Counting helps young children build number sense by making the connection between a number of objects and the written symbol and spoken numeral that represent that quantity. Perfect for home or the classroom, Pop for Counting meets Kindergarten Common Core Math Standards (numeric representations).

Beginners:

1. Players take turns spinning the spinner to determine how many cards to pull from the container

2. Players draw the number of cards specified on the spinner. For each card, the player counts the number of objects depicted and speaks the corresponding number aloud.

3. If the player counts correctly, he keeps the card. If not, the card goes into the discard pile.

4. The first player to collect 10 cards wins, but watch out for POP! cards – pull one of those and lose all of your cards!

Advanced:

1. Players take turns spinning the spinner to determine how many cards to draw from the container

2. Players pull the number of cards specified on the spinner. For each card, the player counts the number of objects depicted and speaks the corresponding number aloud.

3. If the player counts correctly, he keeps the card. If not, the card goes in the discard pile.

4. Watch out for the POP! cards – draw one of those and lose all of your cards!

5. Continue play until all the container is empty. Players count their cards – the player with the most cards wins the game.
